Illustration by Mabel Lucie Atwell (1879-1964) showing a dandyish Tatler dressed in an 18th century frock coat and tri-cornered hat next to a coquettish Tatler on a bench. The picture is a humanised version of the relationship between two ILN titles, the Tatler and Brtiannia & Eve (which Eve became in 1929). Atwell was an immensely popular commercial artist with a career spanning more than fifty years. As well as illustrating many children s books, she illustrated advertisements, produced countless postcards and other ephemera for Valentine s of Dundee and regularly was published in the Tatler during the 1920 s.
