Photograph showing Mrs. Beryl Markham’s (1903-1986) aeroplane stuck in a bog on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, 1936. This was the end of Mrs. Markham’s flight from RAF Abingdon, in England, to North America, whereby she became the first woman to fly the Atlantic solo from East to West. Mrs. Markham was, fortunately, unhurt in the landing.
