The Prince of Wales in his safari kit. The Prince returned early from an African trip, when he received news of King George V’s illness in 1928. Edward, born in 1894, was George’s eldest son. He succeeded his father in 1936, but he abdicated soon after, to marry divorcée, Wallis Simpson.
