Illustration by William Heath Robinson (1872-1944); part of a series of humorous illustrations he produced for the Sketch during World War II. The scene shows a family sitting at a dinner table for Sunday lunch only to be faced with a circular machine which dispenses portions of diminishing size to the dismayed diners. Robinson was a regular contributor to the Sketch, the Bystander & other ILN titles during his lifetime. His weekly drawings featuring mind-boggling contraptions and designs were immensely popular.
